Career Overview

Paul George’s career in basketball has spanned many years, covering a successful run in high school, college, and professional NBA. As a player for one of the richest NBA teams, he became a six-time member of the All-NBA Team and a four-time member of the NBA All-Defensive Team.

With years of experience established throughout his youth, he began full-time playing while attending Knight High School in Palmdale, California.

High School & College Career Highlights

While attending high school in the mid-2000s, Paul George demonstrated his outstanding playing style from an early age.

In 2007, he led the high school team to a championship victory in the Golden League and was named the Golden League Most Valuable Player. Also named the Antelope Valley Press Player of the Year, he ended his senior year with an average of 23.2 points and 11.2 rebounds.

His college performances during the two years he played for the California State University team continued to reflect his exemplary playing style.

In his first game with the Bulldogs, George scored an impressive 14 points to defeat Sacramento State, with additional high scores in subsequent games.

Throughout his college career, he continued to pick up awards for his abilities, appearing in Sports Illustrated as one of the most entertaining players in the game.

Breakthrough Into Professional Basketball At The Indiana Pacers

Following a hugely successful run as both a high school and college player, Paul George was well-prepared for a career in the NBA.

He would go on to play with and against some of the wealthiest NBA players of his generation, beginning with his tenure at the Indiana Pacers in 2010.

Remaining with the Pacers through 2017, George’s early professional career highlights include earning the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2011.

Two years later, he was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player and, for the first time in his career, was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive Second Team.

While an off-season injury set back his strong record in 2014, he returned to form for the 2015 to 2016 season and helped the team win many victories.

He also played for the United States national team in the 2016 Summer Olympics before returning to the Indiana Pacers in 2017.

Late Career Highlights With the Los Angeles Clippers

After a long and hugely successful run of performances with the Indiana Pacers, Paul George ended the relationship with the team in 2017.

George played basketball for the Oklahoma City Thunder team for two seasons before being transferred to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2019.

Home to iconic basketball players, including Ivica Zubac and Norman Powell, George initially performed inconsistently and earned criticism from fans.

After returning to form, he signed an additional four-year contract with the team worth $190 million, significantly increasing his net worth.

By 2021, he had scored a season-high 42 points for the team, but a ligament injury subsequently put him out of action for several weeks.

Following his recovery, George continued to assist his team with multiple victories against teams, including the Sacramento Kings and Minnesota Timberwolves.

With each additional game, Paul George’s career stats continued to reflect his position as one of the most iconic players in basketball history.

Endorsements

Paul George signed an endorsement deal with Nike as a rookie in 2010. Seven years later, when his first signature shoe, the PG1, was released, Forbes estimated his annual earnings from the brand to be $5.5 million. During that same period, his combined endorsement earnings from all sources were estimated to be $7 million.

At the time, George was one of Nike’s highest-paid NBA athletes, beaten only by LeBron, Kobe, and Durant. Under Nike, he released six signature shoes, the final of which was the PG6 in 2023.

Outside of shoe deals, George has worked with multiple brands, including:

  • AT&T
  • Bacardi
  • Gatorade
  • Therabody

He’s currently an official Therabody Athlete, promoting their line of Theragun massage devices alongside fellow NBA players James Hardenand TylerHerro.

In 2019, George starred in a movie promo commercial for Terminator: Dark Fate alongside actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and former teammate Kawhi Leonard.

Paul George’s endorsement income has risen gradually throughout his career, with the most significant factor being his signature shoe deal with Nike. George’s estimated earnings from endorsements were $7 million in 2016, $7.5 million in 2018, and $8.5 million by 2021. When his shoe deal with Nike ended in 2023, that figure returned to $7 million and will likely drop further this year.

Real Estate

Hidden Hills Home

In July 2016, Paul George purchased a 15,973-square-foot, seven-bedroom mansion in Hidden Hills, California, for $7.4 million. According to public records, George was paying approximately between $85,000 and $90,000 in annual property taxes on the home. Since he was playing for Oklahoma when he owned the house, he likely didn’t live there.

In 2020, Paul returned the property to the market, asking for $9.5 million. Music artist French Montana purchased the home for $8.43 million, roughly $1 million more than George had spent four years prior.

Indiana Home

In 2013, while playing for the Indiana Pacers, George paid $2.05 million for a 12,605-square-foot lakefront home in Indianapolis, Indiana. The property included five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a private dock, a wine room, an indoor pool, a hot tub, and a sauna.

In 2018, after being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, he listed the home for sale at $2.1 million, likely expecting to take a loss on the property. It sold for just $1.5 million in May 2019. After fees and property taxes, George potentially could have lost around $800,000 on the sale.

Pacific Palisades Home

In 2019, Paul George paid $16.1 million for DeAndre Jordan‘s 10,500-square-foot, seven-bedroom home in Pacific Palisades, California. Although he still owns the property, with his recent move to the Philadelphia 76ers, he’s likely acquired a new primary residence. This property is currently valued at approximately $18.8 million.

He learned the importance of basketball IQ from his father, who helped Devin develop his skills alongside his natural athleticism.

During middle school, Devin became friends with future NBA players D’Angelo Russell and Tyler Ulis, spending time together and honing their skills.Tyler Ulis was selected in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns and joined the Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings.
