The Valiant Gargoyle & Valiant Gargoyle (Twinblade) in Elden Ring guards the Deeproot Depths coffin transit in the Great Waterfall Basin of Siofra Aqueduct. This boss battle can be especially challenging for Tarnished as it forces the player to face not one but two Gargoyles during the fight, as during the Valiant Gargoyle's second phase, another Twinblade-wielding variant will emerge from the cascade, joining forces with its twin to attack the player.

The Valiant Gargoyle in Elden Ring is located in the Siofra Aqueduct, a small sub-zone north of the Ancestral Woods in the upper level of Siofra River. This area becomes available once Tarnished has defeated Starscourge Radahn and gained access to Nokron, Eternal City. After beating the Mimic Tear boss and crossing the great overpass opposite the Night's Sacred Ground , players can find a semi-hidden cliffside trail in the north leading to Siofra Aqueduct.

Focus On Physical Damage

To beat the Valiant Gargoyle and Valiant Gargoyle Twinblade boss in Elden Ring, Tarnished is advised to adopt a hybrid melee-ranged build with enough HP to withstand heavy hits but enough ranged damage to take down at least one of the bosses at half HP. This is because once players deal with the first Gargoyle, they can use ranged-kiting attacks to finish it off while keeping a safe distance from the second.

Optimal weapon arts for such a build would be Miquella's Ring of Light from the Halo Scythe or Nebula from the Wing of Astel. These ranged abilities are highly effective against the Valiant Gargoyle and can make the boss fight much more manageable.

Furthermore, to give the player an even more significant advantage during the second phase, it's recommended to save a tanky Spirit Summon for when the Twinblade Valiant Gargoyle appears instead of summoning it early. This way, the summons have more chances to deal with the attack from one of the bosses.

Additionally, multiplayer is allowed for this boss, so you can bring a friend to help face the bosses 2v2. The bosses are both immune to all status effects, and you should be prepared to focus more on physical damage. The bosses are most susceptible to Strike damage, so any weapon that focuses on that will be best. You will also want to try to find a weapon with a fair amount of range, even if your build mainly focuses on melee damage.

Before going into the fight, the main thing to be aware of is that the Valiant Gargoyles have two different weapons and will use both interchangeably. This can make it hard to get the timing down right, and you will need to be cautious when approaching them, even when there is only one. Being able to attack from a range is incredibly important, so try to get an incantation in Elden Ring, such as Lightning Spear, that can hit from a distance if you cannot do so otherwise.

Even with a less-than-ideal build, it is possible to beat the Valiant Gargoyles in Elden Ring with a little patience and by understanding the moves. Each Gargoyle has nine moves that they can use, some of which are sword-based and some halberd-based. Most of them can be countered by rolling or dodging in the right direction.

Both moves that switch between the halberd and the sword also involve an attack, so be on the lookout for that. You will also want to be aware of the Poison buildup that you might have to deal with, so be sure to pack a Cure Poison or something similar to keep yourself from losing health to a preventable cause. For those already emphasizing ranged or magic builds, you will want to stay quite close or as far away as possible.

The goal for the fight is to take as little damage as possible in the first phase, where you are only facing one Valiant Gargoyle. Know how to read and avoid the swapping attacks and roll or dodge away from most others. Typically, you can stay under the Gargoyle, but watch out for the Poison Mist attack when you will have to run away.

Once it hits half-health, back away and get to a place where you can see the whole arena. Try to force the Twinblade to spawn across the arena by luring the first one toward the entrance. Immediately start using the highest possible damage you have on the original Gargoyle to burn it out before the Twinblade gets close enough for them to gang up on you. If it does, kite them around and focus your damage on the lowest health one until it is dead.

Be patient with the last phase when you are one-on-one again. The Twinblade has the eponymous weapon and a Great Axe to switch between, and they can make nasty attacks. However, you will not have to fight anything else, so wait it out and take your time to finish the fight.

How To Cheese Valiant Gargoyles

However, two techniques exist to cheese this Elden Ring boss fight if Tarnished is still running into trouble or cannot run an effective hybrid build. The first method is luring both Valiant Gargoyles to the waterfall ledge in the back of the arena, located to the right of the entrance.

Another way to cheese the Valiant Gargoyle boss fight in Elden Ring is by running to the giant waterfall behind the boss area and hiding behind one of the large rocks behind the cascade. In this position, the Gargoyles can somewhat lose their aggro on the player, causing them to keep their distance. Next, Tarnished can either stock up on hundreds of arrows to snipe them from this spot or summon Spirit Ashes capable of long-ranged combat, such as Latenna The Albinauric or Ancestral Follower Ashes.
